Tigers on Their Way – Hockey Season in Germany Started – Part I

What can be more inspiring and challenging for an underdog such as the Straubing Tigers than to prove they have got the guts to pass their 1st year in Germany’s first-class league called DEL (Deutsche Eishockey Liga)? Here I am, one of the most passionate ice hockey fans in Bavaria.

2006 – Time has finally come and the first weekend of season games has already shown that the Tigers seem to be a serious opponent for the already established teams in this elite club.

Ingolstadt, a booming city of Bavaria and once a runner-up itself 4 years ago, turned out to be the first victim of a terrific and hilarious game at the Pulverturm stadium. The Tigers happened to be the more advantageous team in terms of speed, technical ability, and strategic procedure.

Indeed, this historical victory has further incited the enthusiasm and passion of the entire region. Another obvious proof for an increasing attention and acknowledgment throughout the media were two articles in the ‘Welt am Sonntag’ and ‘SZ’, well-known German newspapers; they perfectly illustrate the new career of Erich Kühnhackl as the former hero and captain of Germany’s legendary national team and actual head coach of the Tigers.

From my point of view, this engagement of Mr. Kühnhackl obviously reveals his inherent ambition for a sound job of his team, definitely aiming at a good and exemplary performance regarding physical and mental presence, sportsmanship, fair play and the ability to beat a few of the top teams once in a while.

That way the Tigers brand ought to be made well-known all over the major cities performing in this premier league.

Due to new regulations, the Tigers are enabled to spend at least 5 years without being endangered to leave the elite DEL club again. At first glance, this factual circumstance seems to be an ideal prerequisite for getting settled within this league. However, you should take into account that there is a lack of existential pressure being kicked off after each season: there are no real play-downs forcing the Tigers to invest maximum input and effort for eventual survival of the fittest.

Anyway, how can you effectively guarantee that there is enough stimulus for the Tigers to bundle all energy to get the most out of it? In fact, this will be, at least in my opinion, the tricky question for the next years. How can such a team reasonably cope with this new and unknown situation?

In the following, I will try to find possible solutions and ways of dealing with this juicy topic.

1. Set of Minds – Priorities – Goals

Looking back what the Tigers have already achieved in terms of historical dimensions, it is now fairly important to clarify which kind of realistic goals the organization needs to be aware of regarding the next 5 years.

Basically, they should, psychologically speaking, anchor their previous success as champion of the 2nd league in their minds.

Now the Tigers have to consider the prospective benefit for the city of Straubing and its geographical environment. Therefore, setting the right priorities will become a predominant factor for the team, given that there are sufficient financial assets which will allow to form a winning team with appropriate and affordable players.

I would suggest to focus upon a pragmatic and programmatic strategy, regarding each single season in the DEL, similar to a sophisticated medium-term planning policy. It goes without saying that the necessary learning process is going to happen sooner or later, whilst sticking to this philosophy no matter how difficult this adventure might be.

2. Financial Support

Money keeps the Tiger’s world go round – as a matter of fact this financial aspect is supposed to play the vital role in the eyes of the Tiger. Due to strict monetary bottlenecks and a tough budget to monitor, the management will be forced to keep full attention to balanced accounts in particular regarding the obligation to pay back existing liabilities and urgent debts within a certain period of time.

However, every kind of donation is welcome! So, creativity and flexibility concerning a successful marketing strategy will be a crucial element of the Tiger’s mind-set as well. Nevertheless, the importance of the Major of Straubing as decision maker and administrative backbone mustn’t be neglected in this respect, in particular when it comes to find additional potent investors who can further provide a satisfactory basis for working in the DEL.

3. Management by Realistic Objectives

From my perspective, establishing a kind of Matrix-based organization with specifically designed teams of equal rights and responsibilities, but clearly structured tasks might be a sound alternative to achieve the goals in the end. It’s up to a reasonable management to make sure that all relevant decisions are prepared carefully and wisely, always paying attention to their immediate impact on the team and its environment; this will be mainly true with regard to an efficient purchasing policy of new players or contractual negotiations in general.

I believe it is essential that the entire staff has to stay grounded in spite of all new impressions shaking the Tiger’s world right now. Exaggerations whatsoever won’t be very helpful but might turn out into contra productive thinking.

Besides, maintaining suitable contact with the representatives of the Media is supposed to be another main requirement to be kept in mind throughout the years to come.

The fulfillment of specific conditions has to be taken into account, too. Therefore, a professional co-operation between the Tigers organization and the officials from the DEL needs to be considered.

4. Role Model – Erich Kühnhackl

When it became clear that Erich Kühnhackl is going to be the new coach I already perceived his charismatic vibrations which will surely contribute to a promising season.

I think that a young team like the Tigers definitely needs such a powerful personality in terms of social acceptance and mutual respect. Although, he doesn’t yet have the necessary long-lasting experience as a trainer, I am pretty sure that he can compensate this deficiency with his character and the fact that he is a generic part of the region Lower Bavaria which will also enhance the relationship with the fan-clubs.

According to an article in the ‘Welt am Sonntag’, a large American Automobile manufacturer which has recently become an investor for the DEL chose Erich Kühnhackl as ambassador of its proprietary articles.

This factual matter might as well be a considerable incentive for an exciting adventure in the premier league. Anyway, let’s see what happens and have your fingers crossed for the Tiger’s first successful expedition to a new horizon.

Hockey Uniforms: Manufactured in Impeccable Designs

Sports play an important role in our life. They help us to keep ourselves fit and healthy. There are different types of sports like cricket, football, volleyball, etc. Each sport requires skill and technique along with its prescribed uniform. Hockey is a sport played with great intensity between two teams of usually 11 players each. It is played with curved (j-shaped) sticks and a ball (or puck).

Games played with curved sticks and ball can be found in the pages of history but the word ‘hockey’ has no origin indeed. However it is said that the word hockey was extracted from a French word ‘houquet’ which means shepherd’s stave The first use of this word was made in a book ‘Juvenile Sports and Pastimes’ in 1773.

Field hockey, one of the subtypes, is played using sticks made of wood or fiber glass and a hard rubber ball. Length of stick varies according to the height of the player. The stick of a goalie is different from other players because it has another curve at the end. Jerseys, shin-guards, shorts or kilts, mouth guard and cleats are worn by players. Goalies can touch the ball with any part of the body whereas the field players use the flat side of their stick to play. The team scoring more goals by the end of the match wins.

Ice hockey is also one of the types. It is played on an ice-court where two teams of skaters play using their sticks to shoot a rubber (vulcanized) puck into the opponent’s goal post. There are six players in each team including the goalie. This game requires specialized equipments in order to prevent injury. Helmets, neck-guards, elbow pads, shoulder pads, jersey, gloves, pants, shin guards, mouth guard, ice skates, puck, stick and socks.

In both the game types, uniforms and accessories are too much important to play safe. The hockey uniforms suppliers are offering their collection in a wide array of designs & specifications. Jerseys are made of tough synthetic material, polyester generally, to reduce moisture and keep the player dry. In case of field hockey, jerseys are sleeveless and comfort-fit whereas in case of ice hockey, jerseys are full sleeves. All these jerseys are available at the stores of different hockey uniform manufacturers.

Hockey socks are not to be confused with regular socks. They are made from strong fabric and have openings at two ends, one is stretched up to the thighs and the other is at the ankle. They provide more protection than regular socks.

Hockey cannot be played using just a stick and a ball. It needs a genuine uniform and accessories. If you think you have that zeal for hockey you should always go for a proper uniform before playing. Jerseys, shorts, socks and other items can be purchased from various hockey uniforms suppliers at a very reasonable price. You will get assured quality of print and fabric. Try the original hockey gear and you will definitely feel the difference in your game play.

Hockey Greats: Three Players to Know

Ice hockey is a North American sport that is descended from a similar European sport. Like American football and baseball, it took root in the new world and became more popular than its ancestor. The official birth of the game dates back to Montreal, Canada in 1875 where it was played on a rink the same size as the ones used today. In over a century of competition, many titans of the game have ascended and dominated to take their place in the pantheon of greats. These three titans stand out among all the other luminaries as the best to ever lace up a pair of skates.

Wayne Gretzky

You don’t get the nickname “the great one” for nothing. Wayne Gretzky isn’t the Michael Jordan of Hockey, Michael Jordan is the Wayne Gretzky of basketball. He dominated his sport like few other athletes. Gretzky notched over 200 points (goals plus assists) in a single season in four separate years; no other player has done it once. He won the Stanley Cup four times and was named most valuable player a staggering nine times. When he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings, he instantly turned Southern California into a rabid fandom that galvanized interest in the game in the early 1990s. He retired with 61 National Hockey League records and nearly two decades later, he still holds 60 of them.

Gordie Howe

While Wayne Gretzky was a vocal advocate against fighting in hockey; Gordie Howe did his talking with his fists. When a player scores a goal, an assist, and gets into a fight, NHL fans call this the “Gordie Howe hat trick.” However, he and Gretzky were more alike than different. Howe is the only other player to break the career 800-goal mark. Howe’s toughness, grit, and muscle embodied what Canadians love about their national winter sport. Gretzky broke most of the records he set, but Howe’s 26 seasons in the league still put him ahead of everyone else.

Bobby Orr

Bobby Orr may be the odd man out on this list as the only defender, but his style of play was every bit as valuable as the prolific scorers. He won three consecutive league MVP trophies and was no slouch as a scorer either. He revolutionized the way defenders attack on power plays and still holds the record for most goals and points by a defender in a single season. He is also the only defender to ever lead the league in scoring during a season. Orr is best known for “the goal,” a give-and-go shot slapped home by Orr to give the Boston Bruins their first Stanley Cup. Even casual hockey fans are familiar with the photo of a horizontal and exuberant Orr flying through the air after netting the biggest goal in Bruins history.

Future generations may take their place but these legends will continue to live on.

Let’s Know More About Our National Sport

We have always been quite keen about sports like football, basketball, lawn tennis and of course, cricket. Who doesn’t like cricket? We all do and we follow it religiously whether it is 20-20 or world cup! But did we ever try to discover about our national sport, hockey? I am sure we all are aware of the fact that hockey is our national sport but our duty doesn’t end there. There are still a lot of people specially the new generation who is clueless about this sport and how it is actually played. It is high time we start exploring this game after all it is our national sport and we shouldn’t ignore it.

How to play hockey?

In this game, two teams are divided which plays against each other. Each team has to carefully move the ball into the opponent’s goal with the help of a hockey stick.

• Keep yourself ready with hockey equipment. Buy a beginner stick which comes up to your waist so that you can learn and play comfortably.

• You need to keep in mind that while playing hockey, your left hand will give the main guidance to the stick and your right hand will be the main support to the stick.

• Your left foot should be pointing at the front while the rest foot should be put back for support. You will have to bend your knees in order to aim for the ball.

• Now all you will have to do is, ‘trap the ball’. Here, try to stop or slow down the pace of the ball which is coming towards you.

• It is now time to hit the ball and for that you will have to make sure that your right hand is very close to your left hand so that the ball is in direct contact with your forward foot.

• Try and bounce the ball along the length of the stick. Try to work on the pulls and turns with the help of any of your team member.

In the end, the more you will practice it, the perfect you will become in this game. Once you will learn it, you will not look forward to any other sport. All sports are interesting and fun without any doubt but as an Indian we shouldn’t ignore our national sport and should be equally excited and keen in learning and practicing it. It is one of the important things to remember.

How to Find the Best Hockey Skates and Hockey Sticks for All Players

I have two products that I would highly recommend to anyone who plays hockey. Whether you are a highly skilled player or just getting started I believe these are the two best products you can get for your skill level and for the amount of money you will end up paying. Searching for the right products are hard because there are so many different products and product lines to choose from. Finding the right equipment for yourself is the hardest thing you will experience when getting started playing hockey. Hopefully, this will help you on your journey to becoming a great hockey player!

The two best hockey products I would recommend to you are the Bauer one.6 ice hockey skates and the Bauer Vapor 1x hockey stick. The Bauer One.6 hockey skates are very light and durable. They have held up for the past 5 years and I haven’t had any problems with them. Out of the three pairs of skates that I have owned, they are the best. Finding a pair of skates that you can’t feel on your feet because they are comfortable and light is the most important aspect of any pair of skates. I purchased these skates for only $199 which is usually the cheapest you can find new skates for. As for the Bauer Vapor 1x hockey stick, it is the perfect balance in a hockey stick that you can find right now. It is light, well balanced, accurate and all around well built. For people looking for a great stick for a low price, this is the one you would want to buy. If you cheap out on a stick you will tend to end up buying a heavier product.

These two products are the top hockey products that I would recommend to anyone. These are all products that I would give a 5 out of 5 star rating because they are really that great. It is sometimes hard to find the products that fit your needs just right and be an all-around fantastic product. I know it took me a while to find the right stick and the right skates. I never had anyone suggest a product so strongly than I am right now, give them a try if you believe me and let me know what you think about them.
